Three goals in three consecutive league games together with a robust display against the youngsters of West Ham United in the FA Cup have proved the worth of Billy Davies' decision to once again move the defender further forward.

That has not stopped Davies consistently voicing his opinion that a new striker is needed in January leading to a host of names being linked with the Reds including Kris Boyd, Jordan Rhodes and Nicky Maynard.

In the meantime it is a trip to face a Bolton side who have struggled so far in the league this season and who recently announced large financial losses. It is against this backdrop that manager Dougie Freedman is trying to bolster his squad during the transfer window with a new defender among his top targets.

“I am looking at that department but you know me, signings will only come in if they want to come here and price is right," he said this week.
