A returning hero at the City Ground?

Now aged 28, the Dubliner is without a club after the expiry of his short-term deal with Blackpool, who took Reid from Sunderland during the January transfer window. He made 5 appearances for the Seasiders during their doomed bid to stay in the Premier League.

Reid made his name as a winger at the City Ground having come up through the ranks to make his debut as an 18-year-old against Sheffield United in November 2000, an occasion he marked with a goal.

The Ireland international went on to make over 150 appearances for the Reds before a joint move to Tottenham with Michael Dawson in 2005 but unlike the centre-half, Reid's career path has never been smooth since with spells at Charlton and Sheffield United on loan as well as those at Sunderland and Blackpool.
