Arthur backs chairman

Reid was less than complimentary towards the Forest chairman in a Sunday tabloid newspaper at the weekend regarding funds being made available for new players this summer.

Arthur told Nottinghamforest.co.uk: "I was disappointed to read Andy's comments in the Sunday Mirror. Joe Kinnear has worked hard to strengthen his squad over the summer and is continuing to do so,

"To accuse Nigel Doughty of a lack of investment is misguided. We were the third highest spenders in terms of transfer fees in the First Division last season and have one of the largest salary budgets outside The Premiership.

"Nigel put £6.5m into the club last season - £1.5m out of his own pocket to buy Marlon King and Gareth Taylor and £5m to support the running of the club.

"Nigel is committed to spending a similar amount this season to again support the day-to-day running of the club."

Spurs have moved quickly in an attempt to unsettle the Republic of Ireland International by bidding £3m - £2m less than the offer that was rejected back in January.

Ironically, Forest face Tottenham in a pre-season friendly on Saturday 31 July at the City Ground. (K.O. 3pm)
