A proposed new 30,000 ground at Ashton Vale is seen as vital both for the future of the club and any potential hosting of World Cup matches in Bristol.

The City Council will discuss the development on Wednesday at a meeting where Robins boss Gary Johnson will speak in favour of the scheme.

A record loss of £6.56 million was announced by the club earlier this week, chairman Steve Lansdown telling shareholders: "The club is in a very exciting phase of its development and, with excitement, comes risk."
