The Scot told the League Managers' Association website: "It's a fantastic job for me and I feel privileged and, without a doubt, lucky that I've got it.

"Now the work begins; you go to work and you put yourself under the pressure that you want to be successful straight away.”

Asked about the legacy that Brian Clough's success has had on those men following him into the dug-out, Calderwood said: "It's because of what he did that the club has the legacy of that; there's the stadium and being a world brand as such from winning two European Cups.

"These are all positives that have come from that and I don't see any negatives in that, because these things have given us the opportunity of to be a big team in our division."
