The former Manchester United youngster spent three months with the Reds at the end of last season but then looked to earn a deal elsewhere with a move to Cardiff looking on the cards at one point.
Now though the 26-year-old is back at the City Ground and is expected to become Gary Megson's seventh summer signing.
