Against the backdrop of transfer deadline day Steve Cotterill's side once again failed to score at home or make any headway on those teams above them in the Championship relegation fight.
A good crowd of 23,147 watched Jay Rodriguez bag two goals and also miss a penalty for the Clarets who were rarely tested as they maintained their play-off push.
"It's very difficult when you have to have a makeshift back four, and to get off to that sort of start makes it an uphill battle," was Cotterill's verdict.
"Jay Rodriguez is a young boy who I know very, very well, and he is very, very good in the box."
