Signed by Crystal Palace in the summer, the much-travelled striker has been sidelined for most of the season with an elbow injury but has returned to action in the past week.

"I'm over the moon to be back because it has been eight weeks of frustration as I could do everything but play," he said.

Now approaching his 33rd birthday, John scored 18 league goals in 70 appearances for Forest between 1999 and 2002.

"I have friends and family still in Nottingham and they gave me an opportunity to show what I can do with a football and I am grateful for that, but obviously I want to win," he added.
