Friio: I can still have an impact

Injuries and poor form have restricted the French midfielder to just 22 appearances since joining the Reds from Plymouth Argyle a year ago and he was criticised by manager Gary Megson for his display against Rotherham last month.

"I'm still under contract and I don't want to play in the reserves for 18 months," said Friio, who has been linked with Sheffield Wednesday.

"The manager's words were harsh, but he has every right to say what he wants. I must take it on board.

"It's up to him to leave me out of the team. He's the manager.

"The only thing you can do is try to work as hard as you can to get back in the team.

"It's never easy, but there are worse things in life.

"At the moment it is difficult, but it is a long season and we will see what happens."
