Eventually the Reds beat the Second Division outfit in a penalty shootout with Darren Ward saving 2 spot kicks, after his earlier save during the game.

It didn’t all go Forest's way however, David Johnson and Andy Reid both missed the target, but Marlon Harewood, Eugen Bopp and Danny Sonner all scored and the Reds won 3-2.

After the match Paul Hart was just pleased to have added another win, which will help boost confidence: "Confidence is very important and it would have been a blow to lose this match. This is also an important competition and sides in this division have done well in it in recent years”

"After a tough game on Saturday I could probably have done without extra time and penalties but I was pleased with our fitness at an early stage in the season."
