Much of the recent talk about potential new faces at the City Ground has been around whether a striker would be signed but Billy Davies has strengthened his squad on Thursday with Sunderland midfielder Vaughan, a reported target for a host of Championship clubs including Saturday's opponents Blackpool.
The 30-year-old does not appear to be in the plans of new Black Cats boss Gus Poyet and will be looking to impress with his new club. Simon Gillett, meanwhile, has joined Bristol City on loan, linking up with former Reds boss Sean O'Driscoll once again.
