League One sides busy in the transfer market

Two sides who finished just short of a play-off place last year, Bristol City and Doncaster Rovers have both been busy strengthening their squads.

City have signed five players including regular goalscorer Phil Jevons while Doncaster have added the experienced Kevin Horlock and Bruce Dyer among others and have been the biggest spenders so far this summer.

Relegated Millwall have also hit the ground running under new manager Nigel Spackman who has signed among others goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley from Chelsea, striker Darren Byfield from Gillingham and Liverpool youngster Zak Whitbread for a fee that could rise to £200,000.

Crewe have added some new faces but have also lost the likes of Kenny Lunt and Steve Jones after their relegation while Brighton look set to lose Sebastien Carole to Leeds United.

Of the sides who missed out in the play-offs, Swansea have already added Darren Pratley from Fulham for £100,000 and Huddersfield have been linked with a number of players, including prolific striker Luke Beckett.

Forest for their part are likely to make minimal moves in the transfer market which is not always the case when a new manager comes into a club.

Colin Calderwood though has inherited a squad that is probably the costliest in the division given the transfer fees paid for the likes of Nathan Tyson and Julian Bennett last season and he is looking to give those players the chance to continue where they left off after Gary Megson's departure.
