McGovern told the Mirror: "Gary Megson will pay for this, the board will pay for it, and the fans have paid hundreds of pounds all season. But it doesn't cost the players anything."
He added: "The chairman deserves a lot of credit for giving Gary his backing, but the big problem was that he couldn't figure out how to fix the away form.
"Every other club lifted when Forest came to town and they weren't good enough to respond."
