Season as it happened - April/May

Last updated : 24 May 2006 By Forest

April begins with a 3-1 win at Chesterfield, cutting the gap on the play-off places to just five points.

That becomes two a week later as Forest grind out a win against Colchester and the sides above them struggle.

Another hard-fought win at Tranmere pushes the Reds up into seventh place before they break into the top six with a come from behind success against Yeovil.

Defeat at Hartlepool though is followed by draws against Bournemouth and Bradford and Forest end up in seventh place, two points behind Swansea City.

Newspaper reports suggest that Ian McParland will be named as manager in the close-season with Frank Barlow assisting him but a number of others are also in the frame, including Colin Calderwood, Roy Keane and Nigel Clough.

Wes Morgan signs a new contract that will keep him at the City Ground until 2009.

Gareth Taylor, Paul Gerrard, Paul Evans, Eugen Bopp and Eugene Dadi are all released after the expiry of their contracts.
