Season as it happened - August

Last updated : 08 May 2006 By Forest

Forest begin the season as 9/2 favourites to win League One and open up with a 2-1 win at home to Huddersfield in front of over 24,000 fans.

New signings Rune Pedersen, Ian Breckin, Danny Cullip, Nicky Eaden, Nicky Southall and Gary Holt all start the game.

However the first signs of Forest's poor away form come immediately with successive defeats against Walsall and Swindon.

A home reverse against Scunthorpe follows but Iron boss Brian Laws tells the Forest website that his former club will still be promoted.

The first of three dismal cup defeats comes in the League Cup as Macclesfield win 3-2 at the City Ground.

Gary Megson tells the club website afterwards: "If we play like we did in the first half, which is strolling about thinking the world owes us something, we're going to struggle all the time."

The month ends on a high with a 3-1 win away to Gillingham.

Neil Harris joins the Gills on a season-long loan while Adam Nowland moves to Preston.

Eugene Dadi joins the Reds on a free transfer from Tranmere but a 'substantial offer' for Walsall striker Matty Fryatt is rejected.
