Season as it happened - September

Last updated : 10 May 2006 By Forest

The month starts with a home defeat by Brentford. Forest are then brushed aside at Barnsley, after which Gary Megson offers to quit, saying: I will sit down with the people in charge and see what they think.

"If they decide its time for a change then I'll go. But it's a fantastic club and the people in charge are wonderful."

A story in the Mirror claims Megson is one game away from the sack after alienating 'virtually his entire squad' but chairman Nigel Doughty backs the manager and sees an immediate upturn in results.

Home wins against Rotherham and Bristol City are followed by an away draw against early season pace-setters Swansea. Goalkeeper Russell Hoult impresses after joining on loan from West Brom.

The month ends with a 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool.
