Season in quotes: Winter of discontent

Last updated : 09 May 2012 By Forest

"It is with enormous sadness that we announce the death of the club's owner Nigel Doughty. The club would like to appeal for the privacy of Mr Doughty's family to be observed at this sad time."

Bad results are put into perspective as the shock death of the man who spent much of his fortune on Nottingham Forest is announced in a club statement.

"We have a huge problem at the moment. I have worked tirelessly to try and plug that hole.

"It is a problem that keeps you awake at night and wakes you in the early hours - if you care anyway.

"I've got to sort it out and I will do the job to the best of my ability.”

On the pitch the season reaches its nadir when a live TV audience watch Forest capitulate to Leicester in the FA Cup leaving Steve Cotterill searching for a solution to keep his side out of League One.

"They have bid again and that has been turned down. I don't want to sell Wes."

Cotterill tells BBC Radio Nottingham that he doesn’t want Wes Morgan to join Leicester City. His eventual move however frees up funds for the manager to move into the loan market.

“I’m a realistic person. I’ve not been involved in the league since November, not even on the bench.

"At the age I am, and after a long-term injury, I’ve done enough watching from the sidelines.”
