Middlesbrough midfielder Grant Leadbitter, Leicester City central defender Wes Morgan and Heart of Midlothian's Jason Holt have been the subjects of the Reds interest but, as yet, they have not been prised away from their respective clubs.
Having done transfer business early, however, with the signings of Eric Lichaj and Jamie Paterson among others, Billy Davies has time on his side and a good nucleus to build around when added to a squad that came within a whisker of the play-offs last season (albeit with one or two departures since).
