Cardiff have accused Championship rivals Nottingham Forest of attempting to unsettle midfielder Peter Whittingham. Forest have had two bids for Whittingham turned down but chief executive Mark Arthur has claimed the 25-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract, wants to move to the City Ground.
But his comments have provoked an angry response from the Bluebirds, who insist Whittingham is not for sale and that they are in talks over a new deal. City chief executive Gethin Jenkins said: "I would like to thank Mr Arthur for his interest in our football club, though would suggest that he direct his attention towards internal Nottingham Forest issues and problems than any blatant public attempts to unsettle members of our playing squad.
"We have already stated that we are intent on holding on to our best players in order to remain competitive in the Championship. Positive talks continue with Peter, as they do with other members of our squad, while we concentrate on starting the 2010/11 Championship season." Whittingham scored 25 goals last season for Cardiff, who have estimated debts of £15-30million.
