Championship Business: Blackburn & Bolton

Blackburn Rovers, who were placed under a transfer embargo at the same time as Nottingham Forest in December 2014, will be able to pay a fee for players from January after the restrictions were lifted by the Football League.

New manager Paul Lambert has said that the cash won’t be being splashed at Ewood Park but that the end of the embargo was a ‘building block’ in trying to rebuild the club.

Nearby, Bolton Wanderers financial situation has been described as ‘perilous’ with wages not being paid to players last month and owner Eddie Davis not providing any more funding to the club.

Takeover talks are ongoing with a number of different parties with Davis prepared to write off debts and manager Neil Lennon is confident that administration, and a points penalty, can be avoided.

"It is looking healthier than it was two or three days ago," said the one-time City Ground midfielder.

In managerial news, Queens Park Rangers have confirmed the appointment of ex-Reds coach Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new boss while Reading, beaten by Forest last Saturday and then by QPR on Thursday, have sacked Steve Clarke.

That decision comes just weeks after Clarke spoke to Fulham, City Ground opponents this weekend, about their managerial vacancy.
