The popular former Reds defender was named as Hartlepool manager recently, drawing inevitable comparisons with Brian Clough who made his managerial name with the club.
The 1st Round tie will take in the week beginning Monday 5th August.
Cooper told his new club's official website: “It will certainly give us an early chance to see where we are when coming up against a Nottingham Forest side who will be fancying their chances of promotion to the Premier League with Billy Davies back there."
