First Defeat For Forest

Bily Davies again showed the depth of options available to him by making 11 changes from the midweek cup win against Millwall and was rewarded with an early lead as Andy Reid fired Forest in front.

Shaun Maloney hit back straight away for the hosts, however, when he scored from the penalty spot and Gomez gave the Latics a half-time lead when striking on 35 minutes.

That was the way the game stayed as Forest fell to fourth in the table going into the international break, a position that delighted Davies despite what he said was a poor first-half display from his side.

"We'll look forward to a bit of a break now, because it's a long season ahead."
