The former Walsall man will not be allowed to play at the City Ground on Saturday, when Huddersfield are the visitors.
But an article in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner suggests he could be a wanted man in the summer.
24-year-old Paterson made 54 league appearances for Nottingham Forest after his move from Walsall in July 2013 before being loaned to the Terriers at the start of September last year.
