The Reds and Aston Villa provided good entertainment for the City Ground crowd on Saturday as the Premier League side were pegged back from 3-1 in front to a share of the spoils.

New signing Scott Sinclair netted all three for Villa while Dexter Blackstock, Henri Lansbury and Kelvin Wilson scored for the hosts.

Speaking to the official NFFC website afterwards, manager Freedman praised his squad for their pre-season performances, singling out new man Jamie Ward for special praise.

"I’m delighted with where we are, what we’ve done, and how we’ve built up the games," said the Scot.

All eyes now turn to Friday night and a televised start to the new season at Brighton.

The Seagulls end their preparations on Sunday with a high-profile clash at home to Sevilla.
