Relegation to League One drew nearer after Alan Quinn equalised Kris Commons' opening goal but despite the visitors having a number of chances, Forest held firm in a way that they failed to do against Coventry and Plymouth.
Megson said afterwards: "The way we approached the game, the honesty and the effort they showed was exactly what we should be looking for from day one.
"There were times we could have been much better technically, and in creating chances.
"But in terms of effort I don't think you can ask for a great deal more."
