Forest physio Steve Devine said: "We've assessed Darryl and have found tissue damage in his leg.
"It's the reoccurrence of an old injury and will require treatment.
"It's difficult to put an exact length of time on how long he will be out at the moment though."
Forest face a vital week in the battle to avoid relegation with home games against Leeds United and Wigan Athletic.
