Last season's beaten play-off finalists travel to the City Ground on Tuesday night, four points and four places above their hosts in the Championship.
Speaking after Saturday's goalless draw against Crystal Palace, McDermott said: "I am not worried about where we are in the table. We had a difficult start to the season. We got four points from two games but then lost four on the spin.
"There are lots of reasons for that but we are rebuilding. This is an evolving team and we are pleased with where we are at."
