Fulham, Leeds United and Preston North End all had the opportunity to overtake the Reds in the Championship table following a 1-1 draw for Dougie Freedman's side at Wolves on Friday night.
Preston were the only victors among those clubs, Joe Garner netting the only goal of the game against Reading, but they remain behind Forest on goals scored.
With eight points between his side and the bottom three, Freedman can look upwards towards a congested middle section of the table with the Reds three points behind Blackburn in 11th, their opponents at Ewood Park on Monday night.
