Transfer window - the fallout

Last updated : 01 September 2011 By Forest

Thursday's Nottingham Forest headlines were made by the lack of new signings who made their way across the City Ground threshold to join up with a squad that Steve McClaren has made clear he feels is not going to challenge for promotion automatically this season.

So who, if anyone is to blame and what is the way forward? Given the resources available to both West Ham and Leicester to enable signings such as David Bentley and Jermaine Beckford to drop into the Championship were the Reds right not to get involved in the deadline day scramble?

Are the five signings who have been made over the summer enough keep Forest in the hunt at the top end of the table?

Has Steve McClaren been made false promises. Would he be justified in walking away or should he now look to show his qualities as a coach and work with the players he has got, the majority of whom have helped the Reds into the play-offs for the past two seasons?
