Transfer-listed stars cloud the picture

Forest boss Gary Megson has said he wants to focus more on quality rather than quantity as he builds his squad for next season but if no-one comes in for the five players transfer listed then the space to make changes will surely be limited.

Alan Rogers has said he will stay at the club unless he receives a very good offer, unlikely in the present climate while Nowland's injury problems make him a gamble for any potential new club.

King in particular may struggle to find a new team after a disappointing season. His loan spell at Leeds should have been an opportunity to put himself in the shop window but the Elland Road side are unlikely to offer him a deal while not many other clubs in the Championship will be prepared to take a risk when there are so many out-of-contract players about.

If he does stay and Megson can get the best out of him, then together with Scott Dobie, Neil Harris and the returning Jack Lester he will have a strike force more than capable of scoring goals in League One.

With finances still tight up and down the league though, Megson's forecast of it taking more than one summer to put his ideal squad together may be accurate.
