Alan Wood told us: 'Getting rid of Mark Arthur and David Pleat should have been on the agenda so Billy can secure the players he needs.

'Camp. Blackstock and Gunter and most important break the bank for Rob Jones. His presence alone would help to deter the opposition's big forwards who overran our defence.'

Jill Allsworth is not worried as yet, saying: 'What's the point of signing them whilst there still on holiday?

'Surely we only need them for the start of pre - season.

'I think everyone's panicking too soon. I haven't noticed any other clubs making loads of signings yet either.'

Mike Rogers meanwhile, commented: 'Lets keep our fingers crossed that it'll all come right in the end and that the deals Billy wants will go through.

'I have to say though I am very nervous and have been for weeks that we don''t seem to be able to go for a man, negotiate effectively and seal the deal quickly.

'I would of course be happy to be proved very wrong and that come 1 July a whole number of transfers in are concluded and announced.
'If Adebola is the only major incoming player - we have got it horribly wrong.

'I wonder what the role of the cumbersome and frankly rather daft sounding ''acquisitions committee'' has to play in all of this - give the manager full reign like we did with BC.'
