Midfielder Boateng has signed a one-year playing deal while Hasselbaink is set to be offered a coaching role at the City Ground.
Both men will be linking up again with new Reds boss Steve McClaren having been part of the Middlesbrough side that reached the Uefa Cup final under him in 2006.
