Jewell said afterwards: "We were not at our best but I thought we deserved to win. The decision for their goal went against us but we should have had it wrapped up.
"It wasn't easy as Forest are fighting for their lives, but we had the better chances and should have taken them.
"Sunderland have now gone top but there are going to be a lot of twists and turns in the coming weeks."
